The short version: Driverr does not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies or any third-party tracking cookies. We only store data locally on your device that is strictly necessary to run the app. You are never tracked across other websites.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites store in your browser to remember information about you. Traditional cookies are used by many websites for purposes ranging from keeping you logged in, to tracking your behaviour across the internet for advertising.

Driverr is a Progressive Web App (PWA) - it works more like a native mobile app than a traditional website. Rather than using traditional browser cookies, Driverr uses a browser technology called localStorage to store data locally on your device. Under UK law and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), localStorage falls under the same regulatory framework as cookies and we are required to tell you about it.

2. The Honest Truth About Driverr and Cookies

We want to be completely transparent with you. Here is exactly what Driverr does and does not do:

2.1 What we DO NOT use:

  • Advertising cookies - we do not serve you adverts based on your browsing behaviour
  • Tracking cookies - we do not track your behaviour across other websites or apps
  • Third-party marketing cookies - no advertiser, data broker or marketing company places cookies through Driverr
  • Analytics tracking cookies that identify you personally - Driverr uses Plausible, a privacy-first analytics tool that collects no personal data and sets no cookies
  • Social media cookies - we do not embed social media tracking pixels
  • Fingerprinting - we do not use device fingerprinting to identify you across sessions

2.2 What we DO use:

Driverr uses browser localStorage - a local storage mechanism built into your device's browser - to store data that is strictly necessary for the app to function. This data never leaves your device unless you have enabled cloud sync as part of a Pro subscription.

3. What We Store in localStorage

The following data is stored locally on your device using localStorage. All of it is necessary for the app to work correctly:

4. Third-Party Services

Driverr integrates with several third-party services to provide features. Here is what each service stores or accesses:

4.1 Supabase (Database and Authentication)

Supabase manages your account login and stores your data in the cloud (Pro subscribers only). Supabase uses secure session tokens stored in localStorage to keep you logged in. These tokens are managed by Supabase Auth and expire automatically. Supabase does not set advertising cookies.

4.2 Google OAuth (Optional Sign-In)

If you choose to sign in with Google, Google's authentication service sets its own session cookies in your browser to verify your identity. These are standard authentication cookies set by Google and are not used for advertising within Driverr. Google's cookie policy applies to this process.

4.3 TfL API (London Transport Status)

We request live data from Transport for London's API to show tube and rail disruption status. TfL does not set any cookies through Driverr. Only anonymous API requests are made - your identity is never shared with TfL.

4.4 Open-Meteo (Weather)

We request weather data from Open-Meteo using your GPS coordinates. Open-Meteo does not set any cookies. Only your location coordinates are sent to retrieve relevant weather data - no personal information is shared.

4.5 Ticketmaster Discovery API (Events)

We request event data from Ticketmaster for your registered city. Ticketmaster does not set any cookies through our API integration. No personal information is shared with Ticketmaster.

4.6 Transport API (Rail Status)

We request live rail disruption data from Transport API (transportapi.com) for major London rail terminals. Transport API does not set any cookies through our integration. Only anonymous API requests are made - your identity is never shared with Transport API.

4.7 Plausible Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how drivers use the app and website. Plausible is a privacy-first analytics tool that collects no personally identifiable data and sets no cookies. It tracks anonymous page views and session counts only. No personal information is shared with Plausible. Privacy policy at plausible.io/privacy

4.8 Stripe (Payments - Pro subscribers)

When you subscribe to Driverr Pro, Stripe processes your payment. Stripe sets its own secure cookies for fraud prevention and payment processing purposes. These are strictly necessary for processing payments and are not used for advertising. Stripe's cookie policy applies at stripe.com/cookie-settings

5. How to Control Local Storage

Unlike traditional cookies, localStorage cannot be controlled through a cookie consent banner - it is part of the app's core functionality. However you have full control over your data:

5.1 Clear localStorage

You can clear all locally stored Driverr data at any time by:

  • Clearing your browser's site data in your browser settings
  • Uninstalling the Driverr PWA from your device home screen
  • Deleting your Driverr account through More - Account - Delete my account - this clears all local and cloud data permanently

5.2 Manage Google Cookies

If you signed in with Google, you can manage Google's authentication cookies through your browser settings or Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com.

5.3 Manage Stripe Cookies

Stripe's payment cookies are strictly necessary for processing payments and cannot be disabled without preventing payment processing. You can view Stripe's cookie policy at stripe.com/cookie-settings.

6. Do We Use Cookies for Advertising?

No. Driverr does not use cookies or any tracking technology for advertising purposes. We do not:

  • Sell your data to advertisers
  • Use your data for targeted advertising
  • Allow third-party advertisers to place cookies through our app
  • Track your behaviour across other websites or apps
  • Build advertising profiles based on your usage

Driverr's only revenue comes from driver subscriptions and B2B business partner fees. We have no financial incentive to advertise to you or share your data with advertisers. This is a deliberate business decision and a core part of our values as a driver-first company.

7. Future Changes

If we introduce any new cookies or tracking technologies in the future, we will update this policy and notify you in advance. We will always ask for your consent before using any non-essential cookies.

We commit to never introducing advertising cookies or selling your data for advertising purposes. This is a founding principle of Driverr and will not change.

8. Legal Basis

Our use of strictly necessary localStorage is based on legitimate interests under UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR). These storage items are essential for the app to function and cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality.

We do not require your consent for strictly necessary localStorage under PECR as it is essential for providing the service you have requested. If we ever introduce non-essential storage or cookies, we will seek your explicit consent first.
